Conclusion

The Digital Omnibus has the potential to relieve some of the regulatory burden on businesses, but the tangible impact remains to be seen.

It is possible that the proposal will be watered down or amended in the course of the inter-institutional negotiations, and even if enacted, there is no guarantee that they will be enacted expeditiously. Further, given the drafting of the proposals relating to the GDPR, it is not immediately obvious that the proposals will have the intended effect or will introduce significant clarity into the law.
