SPRING LEGISLATIVE PROGRAMME

The Government has published the legislative programme for spring 2025.

The Protection of Employees (Employers’ Insolvency) (Amendment) Bill is listed as “legislation for priority publication”. This Bill, the General Scheme of which was published in May 2024, will update the legislation governing the protection of employees during their employer’s insolvency, specifically employees’ pay-related entitlements from the Social Insurance Fund, colloquially referred to as the ‘insolvency payments scheme’. Pre-legislative scrutiny was completed in October 2024.

The Co-operative Societies Bill is listed for “priority drafting”. The Bill is intended to modernise and consolidate existing legislation and to provide an effective legislative framework for the co-operative model.
